Unlike many dinner cruises where food is pre-prepared, the Tamarind Dhow features on-board charcoal grills. This allows the chefs to prepare seafood at the peak of freshness, filling the night air with the aroma of charred spices and garlic. As the dhow departs, guests are welcomed with a Dawa, the signature Kenyan cocktail of vodka, honey, and lime. The cruise moves smoothly toward the Old Harbour, passing the historic, floodlit battlements of Fort Jesus (a UNESCO World Heritage site). As the sun sets and the stars emerge, the dhow moors in a sheltered bay where the water is calm, and the only sounds are the lapping waves and the resident band playing a mix of Swahili melodies and international jazz.
